Fu** English Identity and the EDL Cult

"But are you supposing that Islam is the only religion with homophobic practices?

"All of the major Abrahamic religions sermonise against homosexuality because it is within their doctrine. Apparently their "deity" or "god" created homosexuals but strictly forbids them from entering "heaven".

"Christianity has been particularly potent in its reprimanding of homosexual activity across Europe and most severely in England during the period of Mediaevalism when gays were castrated at the order of a very white, very English king.

"So I don't understand why this is posted as an example of English defence. We are a tiny island with an incurable Empire deficiency hang-up and a failing economy due to our lack of industry.
"Why are people so fervent in their defence of a landmass they happened to be born on?...but pure coincidence.
"Islamics are as deluded as Christians in that they worship a medieval theology...apart from that they are still constituents of the same genetic make up.

"I see nothing to be proud of in a defence of our sad national identity...which should be reclaimed through tolerance, scientific endeavour, and cultural homogeny rather than this deluded supposition that everything should be unilaterally "English". I'm very confused by your cult and what it stands for?" - By Jamesarpc, responding to:

But are you supposing that Islam is the only religion with homophobic practices?
All of the major Abrahamic religions sermonise against homosexuality because it is within their doctrine. Apparently their "deity" or "god" created homosexuals but strictly forbids them from entering "heaven". [No. What makes you think that? I am fully aware that Christianity has an ‘anti-gay’ past. Who knows, perhaps there are anti-homosexuality passages in Buddhism, despite what many New Yorkers think.

The point for me, as a non-Christian and a heterosexual, is that anti-homosexuality is not a vital part of English Christianity today; although the Catholic Church is still anti-homosexuality. However, even though that’s the case, unlike Islam, in England no religion preaches violence and hatred against homosexuals. There is no Catholic or Church of England version of the Islamic ‘bag a fag’ campaign in Tower Hamlets or a Christian version of the homophobic Luftar Rahman (or of the many more violently and openly anti-homosexual Muslim clerics, imans, representatives, etc.) I don’t care that much what the Church did or said about homosexuality in the 16th or 9th century. What is happening today is what primarily concerns me.]

Christianity has been particularly potent in its reprimanding of homosexual activity across Europe and most severely in England during the period of Mediaevalism when gays were castrated at the order of a very white, very English king. [Yes? And your point is?] So I don't understand why this is posted as an example of English defence. [The point is the one I made earlier and the one on the actual post you’ve responded to.

I suppose this particular case is ‘English defence’ because Muslims are getting away with anti-homosexuality whereas as (white) English Christians wouldn’t stand a chance with getting away with the same things. Islamic anti-homosexuality, and the Left's and Government’s attitude to it, is just one example of such hypocrisy. In any case, why does every EDL Extra post, of which there are over 500, have to be explicitly about ‘English defence’?]
We are a tiny island with an incurable Empire deficiency hang-up and a failing economy due to our lack of industry. [What?]

Why are people so fervent in their defence of a landmass they happened to be born on?...but pure coincidence. [Because of its tradition of democracy, free speech, tolerance (even to the intolerant – which the EDL disagrees with), Shakespeare, Tricky, Churchill, the Rolling Stones, football, Coronation Street, the landscape, pubs, dirty postcards, the Sun, the Telegraph and the whole great mix of both good and bad.

Yes, we were born here by ‘pure coincidence’; but what does that prove or say? I may chance upon a rock concert and still praise it. I may accidentally come across a work of art and still praise it. Do you apply the same logic to Pakistanis, Jamaicans, Arabs, etc. in their ‘fervent defences of the landmasses they happened to be born on’? Or do you only criticise the English for doing so?]

Islamics are as deluded as Christians in that they worship a medieval theology...apart from that they are still constituents of the same genetic make up. [Christianity has a long tradition of rational critique and reformation. Islam does not. Christianity took on board Greek and Roman philosophy, the findings of science, etc. Islam, traditionally and today, has and does not.

I don’t understand the bit about ‘constituents of the same genetic make up’? Didn’t Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Peter Sutcliffe, etc also share the same genetic constituents with us? What’s your point? Unless you are simply assuming that the EDL, or EDL Extra, is racist.]

I see nothing to be proud of in a defence of our sad national identity...which should be reclaimed through tolerance, scientific endeavour, and cultural homogeny rather than this deluded supposition that everything should be unilaterally "English". I'm very confused by your cult and what it stands for? [Why is the EDL a ‘cult’? You will need to explain that. What cult do you belong to? A Leftist cult? A student cult? A cult of Marxist journalists? Why is the EDL a cult – or were you just being ironic?

Why is English identity ‘sad’? Or, I bet, why is the identity of only the white EDL sad, as you know doubt see it? Is Islamic identity also sad? Is Leftist identity sad? Is Pakistani identity sad? Or only the identity of the English?

Your clause about ‘tolerance, scientific endeavour’, etc. is just too fluffy to make sense of or to respond to. Are you a journalist?]
